Hibiscus is one of our favourite bases for herbal loose leaf tea, and it's a popular choice for making tangy and fruity beverages around the world. We often hear a lot about the great antioxidant powers of green and black teas, but hibiscus also has some fantastic antioxidant properties - it's also high in vitamin C and research is being performed to investigate its blood pressure and lipid-lowering effects!
But enough about Hibiscus... How do you make Spiced Hibiscus Tea??
2 Tbsp. dried hibiscus loose leaf tea
1 star anise pod
2 whole cloves
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1 cinnamon stick
1-2 tbsp Honey
- Add all ingredients into a pot.
- Add water and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and gently simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove pot from the heat and let it sit/steep for another 10-15 minutes.
- Finish it off with honey to taste.
Feeling a little adventurous? Add a dash of your favourite rum, whisky or bourbon. We recommend a nice spiced rum which complements the other flavours!
